Master Builders Association

Four years ago Master Builders Association of Victoria and MBA Insurance Services organised a social game of cricket amongst employees to further develop positive working relationships and to help break down some barriers within different departments of their business.
The idea was met with a lot of enthusiasm and turned out to be very successful, so successful that MBAV decided to run the match annually, supporting different charities whilst having a great time playing cricket.  This year through MBA Insurance Services Victorian State Manager, Joe Keiper, the MBAV/MBAIS team will be participating in the Ponting Foundation’s Biggest Game of Cricket, which has been seen as a perfect fit.
“People are really getting involved this year’ Joe said. “We have dedicated staff members sending out weekly reminder emails, selling tickets for raffle prizes and we will also have quite a few volunteers on the day to help out”.
Biggest Game of Cricket (BGOC) staff provided MBA with some incredible prizes from Harvey Norman which are currently being raffled off each week. So far two have been won and the proceeds have been directly deposited to the foundation.
“It’s important to keep building the momentum, so we wanted to raffle off one prize per week to keep the excitement levels high until we hold our game in early February” said Joe.  “Another way we maintain the momentum is through social media. Many players have already registered online through the Biggest Game of Cricket website and have been shared with their friends and family on Facebook. Social media is a wonderful tool to spread the word and to gather involvement and donations from your friends and family outside MBA. We have also utilised Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and of course word of mouth to raise the awareness of our game and to help us achieve our $3,000 donation goal.”
MBA has been proactive and has approached business partners and contacts that they work closely with to ask for their donations-with great results. They have also secured two naming rights sponsors for their BGOC, with the CGU Comets taking on the Chase All-Stars, each sponsor being represented by at least one of their own players in the official MBA cricket team.  In addition to team names, another generous sponsor has been signed up – with DG Global contributing $20 for each six hit in the match, which will no doubt encourage the MBA team to swing for the fences!
Additional fundraising has also been organised and includes ideas such as:
·         Casual Friday-Gold coin donation
·         Selling drinks and hot dogs on the day
·         $10 entry fee to play on the team
“These idea’s aren’t rocket science” Joe says. “They’re simple and effective, and we have some super staff and business partners that are happy to help out a great cause, and we have a lot of fun on the day.  We’re on track to smash our original goal of $3,000, and we hope to crack $5,000 for the Foundation, which would be a great result!”
